The benefits of bodybuilding workouts are several, including improved health, increased energy and of course a well-toned body. But before you start on your bodybuilding workout there are some essential tips that you need to know to make sure you get the best out of your routine.

One subject that is very important is nutrition. Your body uses the nutrients in the food you eat in many different ways. You must learn what to eat before and after any activities you will engage in. Carbohydrates are very important when you are facing an extreme workout. Since you will be using a lot of carbs for the fuel to perform, you must be sure to eat an adequate amount of carbohydrates before you begin.

Bodybuilding WorkoutAt bedtime though you want to skimp on the carbs. If you eat a lot of carbs, your body will trigger insulin, which is the fat storing hormone. You want your body to be burning your stored fat for fuel, not saving it for later. It’s not necessary to give up carbs completely in the evening, but try to eat fewer by choosing low-carb vegetables with your meal instead of high-carb veggies such as potatoes or corn. And take it easy on the bread.

Another time you want to clear the way for your body to burn fat is when you do a cardio workout in the morning. Do it before you eat any carbohydrates and you will optimize your fat burning potential. Otherwise, the body will use the carbs in your system for fuel rather than the fat you have stored.

Those that incorporate cheat days into their bodybuilding workout routine will see that their gains, and cuts, will improve dramatically because of the state of their mind. These cheat days should happen at least once a week when you are bodybuilding. If you are regularly working at cutting, and you find that your cheat day is adversely affecting your progress, only do it biweekly.

Working out, especially when you are trying to lose fat, requires that the body be confused therefore these days are necessary to throw off the routine. Bodybuilding requires some amount of change, and eating unhealthy foods from time to time is a good way to keep your mind balanced and happy while you work out.

Compound exercises, namely those that involve more than one muscle group, are the most effective at helping you increase muscle size quickly. Exercises like dead lifts, squats and bench press are very good at helping to add mass rather than doing isolated movements as they usually only work on the slow twitch fibers that are good for strength, not size. To make the most gains you should make sure you do some compound exercises, that way your time in the gym isn’t wasted.

You will need to change things around to keep making progress at the gym, so monitoring your progress to see where you’re falling behind is a good idea. Your first steps into the big world of bodybuilding should be easier when you consider the above information. Even if you find it a bit intimidating, simply remember that bodybuilding workouts offer so many benefits that a little initial discomfort is worth it.
