The Fastest way I know to Relieve Your Painful Gout Attack

Use the medication your doctor has prescribed for treating your gout attacks. If this is your first attack or if you do not have any prescribed medication to treat your gout you can use an over-the-counter NSAID (non steroid anti inflammatory drug) such as Ibuprofen, although not as strong, when combined with one of the following tips, will work just as well.

Recommended dosage for treating an unforeseen gout attack.

Ibuprofen,(OTC), take 800 mg 4 times a day

Reduce the dosage as the attack subsides and eventually stop.

See your doctor as soon as possible for a steroid or non-steroidal injection, to quickly reduce the pain.

Remove the shoes, socks, or tight clothing from the attack area and avoid any stress or pressure on them.

Apply an anesthetic numbing spray, cream or lotion to the affected area, which will help to numb the pain, (such products can be purchased easily over the counter from any chemist, drug store).

Avoid using aspirin as it can make the attack far worse.

Avoid alcohol, acidic foods and drinks, fizzy drinks, orange juice, tomatoes, citrus fruit, red meat as they will all worsen and prolong gout attacks.

Drink at least 2 liters of mineral water per day.

Alkalize the body and increase the blood PH level to around 7, do this by mixing half a teaspoon of baking soda to a medium sized glass of mineral water and drink every 4 hours up to a maximum of 4 glasses per day. Baking soda, is the quickest way of alkalizing your body and also accelerates the urinary excretion of excess uric acid. Baking soda is also known to increases the effectiveness of NSAIDs.

Always get your doctor’s approval before trying this (ask your doctor in advance, just so you know it will be safe, if you do ever need to use this method).

Use ice to cool the effected joint & reduce swelling and pain.

Try to rest until the attack subsides, as undue or premature use of the joint will make things worse.

Learn as much as you can about your gout condition to prevent and treat future attacks. Gout often starts very quickly and with little warning, be prepared. Discontinue the use of these methods when your gout attack subsides, as they are designed for quick relief only.
